When I used macOS, I was a huge fan of LaunchBar. It’s described as an “application launcher,” but it is much more. It was one of, if not the, first third-party utility I installed on any new Mac.

When I transitioned to Linux (with the KDE Plasma desktop), I found my LaunchBar cravings were nicely addressed by KRunner. I had to make some changes, but I could get it to do the things I really needed.

One thing I’ve relied on with LaunchBar and KRunner were the recent commands function. I have a bunch of shell scripts to do things like open terminals or Webmin pages to my several servers or to trigger the Quartz CMS to rebuild this site. Recently, though (see what I did there?) the recent commands are quickly being forgotten. Then — poor me — I have to open the file browser and find the command file and double-click it. That will help for a while, then things will mess up again.

I sense that this is one of those cases where I messed something up, but I sure cannot figure out what.
