I edit twoprops.net using Markdown, a simple formatting language. I usually edit using Kate. I like Kate, but it’s a full-featured code editor.
I’m in the middle of writing a feature article for the local newspaper (yes! our remote and rural island community actually has a print newspaper!) and decided that Kate’s comprehensive set of tools made it a bit too busy for the task of editing a feature-length piece. For this job, I wanted a super-simple environment that just let me edit and preview Markdown. Nothing else.
I found what I was looking for in ghostwriter, a free and open-source editor that’s focused on just writing.
I’m editing this column in ghostwriter, and I miss some of Kate’s power (working with remote files, for one) but I think for the newspaper piece it will be just the ticket.
