“Island time” really is a thing. Stuff happens here at a slower pace. It takes an adjustment for me, as I grew up in a time-is-money we-need-it-yesterday big tech (and later big medicine) culture. I love being able to swap stories with the tradesfolk working on my house projects, and being able to talk about the aesthetics of my plans and not just the materials and dimensions. They listen patiently (I hope I’m not too tedious) and share their own stories with me. I think it makes for a better world, but it does take me a little while when I first fly in to lose my rush-rush mentality.
