photo of the washer and dryer atop their new pedestals

This island place is the first place that I’ve felt at home since my childhood. Every other place I’ve lived was temporary. Being in a permanent (at least by intention) home and relationship is changing my attitude toward capital investment. When I buy, make, or build things I’m likely to invest more time or money than I would have before.

Pedestals for the laundry equipment fall in that category. I have always thought they’d be nice, but generally not worth the money and effort to get them. “I can bend down to get into the machines; not that big a deal.” But now, there’s a high likelihood that the machines will be there for a long time, HA and I will use them a lot, my back (which is blessedly trouble-free) isn’t going to get any younger, and the minimal investment in pedestalage will be well worth it. These generic, adjustable stands were just $130 each, delivered to our post office. I feel so grown up!
