photograph of an electric pencil sharpener with a yellow pencil in it

Years ago, I bought an electric pencil sharpener. I only vaguely recall purchasing it, but my main motivation is that I thought it would possibly add a little fun to homework time for my school aged children. It did. More than once, the mood changed when “we have to do homework” started with a fun few seconds of getting the pencil nice and sharp.

After moving to the island, the pencil sharpener ended up in one of the still-packed boxes in the garage. Unpacking it wasn’t a priority. I can easily sharpen pencils with my knife, and I even had a manual sharpener (one of the plastic-box-with-razor-blade things).

I’m using pencils a lot, though: from project sketches and plans to marking materials prior to cutting. I missed the silly electric pencil sharpener.

I unpacked it a couple of weeks ago, and it’s just as useful and as much fun to me as it was to my children all those years ago.
