Do weekends matter to the old retired guy?
After all, weekdays no longer mean early morning
Shower, shave, and shamble out the door
Go to work for The Man (even when The Man was me)
No more school nights for me or my offspring
But still, there’s a vibrancy in a Friday
Promising a morrow of leisure and laughter
And sleeping later and less stress…
Maybe it’s just that those around me are working still
And I feel the relief and quiet in their air
Or maybe it’s decades of habit and memories
Or maybe weekends are magic after all.
