I’m staying with my brother while recovering from my PAE. I’m finally starting to feel better. I’m off pain medications and my appetite is slowly returning. I decided to celebrate by making lunch. I was shaving cheese and turned to walk into the main part of the kitchen, forgetting the tile step you can see in the photo above. I stubbed my toe on the step. It hurt a bit, but nothing like the pain I’ve been having the past couple of days so I didn’t think much of it.
I walked across the kitchen, then turned back to see a freaking murder scene. Apparently, I’d spit my toenail and opened up a good-sized vein. Fortunately, I don’t travel without horse tape (in a color to match my shorts!) and sterile gauze. Blood wipes up easily from the tile floor, and I still have a couple of pints left inside.
Just a reminder that medical conditions can impair one’s balance and cognition more than seems reasonable.
