black-on-white sketch of a ceiling fan

We like ceiling fans, and we have a problem with mold. It’s actually much cooler here on the mountain than it is elsewhere on this island, but it’s still plenty damp. (This is a mist forest, after all.) Most all the time, the temperature is in the perfect range for growing mold. Most of the time, the humidity is over 90%. Well over. This makes the mold happy to grow, grow, grow.

Ventilation seems to help, so we’ve taken the doors off our kitchen cabinets. We planned our new kitchen with mesh-front doors.

I finished wiring the service panel for the studio today, and I was getting ready to button the project up when it occurred to me: ceiling fans! I’ve been spending lots of energy trying to figure out how best to wire the main house for ceiling fans (there’s an attic, but the walls are tongue-and-groove so the wiring has to go on one surface or another), but totally forgot to wire for any fans in the studio now while the hollow walls are still exposed!

It feels as though I almost missed a big opportunity, but in the morning I’ll go down there and trivially pull a couple of wires instead of the huge headache I would have had trying to do it after I’d finished the drywall.
