When Twitter went down the tubes, I was looking for a place to continue to follow the doings of my favorite infosec folks. For me, that place turned out to be Mastodon. You can find me there (my presence is tiny) at @twoprops@defcon.social.
Mastodon is federated, so there’s no big, centralized controlling entity. That should help it be resistant against the kind of enshittification that has happened to other big tech services. I’m not a Mastodon power user; I’m pretty much still a lurker at this point. Still, I’m enjoying it and finding it useful. One day, I’ll probably syndicate twoprops.net
there.
I tried a number of clients, and the one I have enjoyed the most is a web client called Phanpy. I like the way it displays threads and boosts, which makes for a smooth and satisfying browser experience. Give it a look!

PS. If you’re still using twitter/x, you owe it to yourself to explore Mastodon. It’s smaller, but much less infested with bots and trolls than other microblogging sites, and there’s reason to believe it will stay that way.
