The view from the island place is almost directly to the north, from inside of a gulch. I figured, though we can see the ocean, we’d miss the sunrises (they’d be behind the hills to the east) and the sunsets (behind the hills to the west). Then the other day I looked out and, while we don’t actually get the sun-touching-the-water, green flash type of sunsets, we had a pretty nice display with the sun setting just out of sight to the west and pink and orange clouds over the ocean.

About 04:30 in the morning, well before sunrise, I was up and saw the pasture bathed in silvery moonlight from a just-slightly-waning supermoon. My phone camera has a “night” mode, and to be honest I have no idea what, exactly, it’s supposed to do. I doubt it’s just a long exposure, as there’s no way I’d be able to hold the phone steady enough during the several seconds it takes to get a night-mode photo. Perhaps it’s a timed exposure with software to correct for the blurring and streaking from camera movements. In any case, I think it took a remarkable photograph in brilliant color given that — to the naked eye — the scene was black-and-white due to lack of illumination.

I think it’s a notable photograph in a rather eerie way.
