You might recall that last Wednesday, the afternoon before a four-day holiday (Thanksgiving) weekend in the US, a tree fell on our fiber optic drop and ripped the cable off the house. They couldn’t come fix it until today, but we managed to have a great Thanksgiving weekend anyway with good neighbors, HA’s son, and satellite backup internet. This morning, the crew arrived to repair the fiber.
They put in a new drop, attached it at the pole end (which was also damaged when the tree fell), and physically attached it to the house. Then, as they were stapling it to the side of the house, a staple misfired and severed the fiber core. This has happened to me more than once, and I felt bad for the installers. They had to do the whole thing over again, but it came up without further difficulty. I’ll leave the Starlink connected for another day, then put it away when I’m sure everything is stable.
The municipal water stayed on all day. We have fiber internet. It was sunny so we had plenty of power. HA’s son is cooking dinner for us. Much for which to be thankful.
