I got this little dipole for my mesh radios today. In quantity, they’re only about a buck. They’re adhesive-backed, so I can stick it right on the pole.
It was kind of expensive to ship, which is ironic as they could have just taped it to the back of a postcard.
I couldn’t install it today, because instead we have to start preparing for Hurricane Nolo, which is expected to form southwest of the island tonight and then move northward with Category 3 hurricane strength. We likely won’t get directly hit, but a lot of rain and wind will be involved. We’ll have our GMRS radio network functioning. Windows are boarded up. Outdoor furniture, tent canopies, and the dining tent will be folded. We’ll have full gas cans and tanks. The temporary 12’ mast that holds the mesh CLIENT_BASE node will have to come down, as I don’t think its temporary bungee-cord mounting system is up to weather a storm.
With luck, it will all be for nothing and I can get the new antenna mounted on Saturday.
