It’s over 100 meters (yards) from the main house to the studio. While J is visiting, he’s been staying in the studio and we often spend the evening in the hot tub. We have a number of headlamps, which really are necessary for navigating the long and very dark path back to the studio. Still, it’s kind of an eerie experience to make the walk with just a headlamp, as there’s not a great sense of where you’re going.
I’ve long thought it would be helpful to put up the same solar fence lights that I installed to light up the area around the hot tub. They don’t put out a lot of light, which should keep the astronomers on our mountain from calling me “Elon,” but at least they’d provide some light and a sense of distance.
I bought some when J first got here, but it’s been so rainy and we’ve been spending so much time traveling around the island that I hadn’t had a chance to install them. This morning was sunny, so in they went. I only installed ten, and it’s not nearly enough to make the trek comfortable without also having a flashlight or headlamp, but they do provide a sense of civilization, distance, and direction that makes the walk a little less edgy.
