The other day I was kicked back in my office, writing, when I heard a repeated thumping from elsewhere in the house. I was startled. Our home is small and isolated, and generally very, very quiet. The ceiling fans we put in are completely silent (good, since in the tiny house we have six of them always on). We’re not having to use the dehumidifiers as much because it has been a very dry winter and we now have the fans going all the time. The refrigerator is generally the loudest thing around, but it doesn’t run all the time. When Luna the Big Dog™ is out with HA, there simply aren’t any inside noises — particularly of the thumping and bumping variety.

When our robotic vacuum is in another room, it’s so quiet that I can enter into a reverie until she gets hung up on a stray electrical cord or a door threshold and tries to free herself by bumping back and forth.

It’s suprisingly spooky.
