The studio, a little 175 sq ft building about 400’ makai (toward the ocean) from our main house, is coming along nicely. It was just bare stud walls, no ceiling, plywood floor, no utilities.

The first thing we did is put in our solar plant at the studio, because that was the closest place to the main house where there was lots of sunshine. We put the solar inverter on the outside wall of the studio, and the batteries inside. We needed to have the studio wired up before that happened, so I did all that prior to the big solar install.

I figured out a way to fit a (very narrow) bathroom in the building.

I pulled a fiber-optic cable along the fence line so that I could hook up the solar plant to my Home Assistant server and so I’d have good internet in the studio. Here, you can see the battery stack with a WiFi access point on top and you can see out the window to the panels.

We put in drywall along with flooring and generally made everything nice. The Hired Hand had the brilliant idea of using material I’d bought to make faux battens on the garage and studio (to match the “newer” part of the house) to trim out the windows and doors.

The studio door has so much character, I decided not to refinish it. I’ll have to do something with it, but I’m hoping I can seal it without destroying its patina.

About the only things left to do are finishing plumbing the faucet and hook up to the sewage system. I have a couple of electrical fixtures to install, too, and the place needs windows.

Almost there!
