I made progress with the studio today. Have I broken the curse?

While at the hardware store yesterday I bought the longest drain extension they had. I also bought a flexible, bendable extension just in case. Smart move, twoprops! The straight extension was just exactly the right length. As in: shift the drain pipe ⅛” up or down and it will disconnect. That’s too brittle for my tastes, so I ended up having to cut the extension up so that it would adapt to the flexible one. Together, they made the drain work. Lookout, Rube Goldberg!

I also hooked up the instant hot water heater heater and the cold water supply.

I then installed a large, circular lighted bathroom mirror over the sink, which also serves as lighting for the bathroom.

So now you can see, pee, poo, have a premium butt shower experience with a Toto Washlet electronic bidet seat, and wash up afterwards with instant hot water.

Towel holder. Oops. I need a towel ring.

What you cannot do yet is get toilet paper off of a dispenser, as the paper dispenser I bought had been opened, hardware removed, and re-sealed. I thought I would surely be able to mount it anyway, but it requires little stamped metal triangular pieces and one of them is missing. So I suppose I’ll just have to buy a new dispenser (I bought this one over a year ago, and I don’t even remember where).

The other problem is the ceiling light. The screws packaged with it were far too short and could never have worked. I bought the longest 8-32 screws the local village hardware store had, which were labeled as 1½”. In reality, they were 1-7/16” and, guess what, 1/16” too short to mount the ceiling light. I tacked it up (emphasis on “tacky”) with some framing screws, but it dangles precipitously from the ceiling. I’ll have to go into town to get the proper screws.

I still need to install the rope ladder into the storage attic, but I don’t think any guests would care. I also need to take out a motley collection of tools and leftover parts, then give the place a good cleaning. The end, however, is in sight.
