Back in the early days of twoprops.net, I used the then-nascent “AI” programs to design an illustration of for my alter ego Infrastructure Man. I soon changed my mind about the role and viability of large models to simulate creative work.

Progress is impossible without change; and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.
— George Bernard Shaw

It took a while. I was new to the idea of commissioning an artist and the process seemed remarkably difficult. I did get a human-drawn avatar for the site, but Infrastructure Man stayed solidly, miserably AI-generated.

Until today. This fine rendering of Infrastructure Man was created by Caroline Canty.
