No evil mastermind’s compound is complete without an electric gate across the secret entrance. We are now equipped with same.

As cool as it is to have the gate open and shut on its own, it turns out to be worthless. There is enough play in the closed gate that a person or, more importantly, Luna the Big Dog™, can squeeze through. I didn’t expect it to be a person-proof security measure, but I do need to keep the dog safe and contained. So we have to chain the gate up anyway, which means getting out of the car to open and close the gate manually every time. It’s worse, in some ways, than not having an opener at all. Ghost Controls, who make the opener, also sell a locking mechanism that would remedy the problem but it’s well over $200. There are aftermarket locks for about a third as much, but with scattered reports of people having trouble getting them to interface properly with the Ghost opener.
Overall, I was impressed with the Ghost opener, instructions, build quality, etc., but they seem to be profiteering on the accessories. For example, a plastic box to hold the battery is $120. Seems a bit steep.
Nobody explained to me that this world-domination business would be so expensive.
