photo of a wheelbarrow with a gimbal mount holding a water bottle steady

The other day I was by the garage talking with the Hired Hand. As is his wont, he was loading the wheelbarrow with the tools and supplies he’d need for the project he was working on in some far corner of the compound. The last thing he did was search for a spot to balance his take-out coffee cup where it wouldn’t fall over, be squashed by shifting supplies, or leak too much precious hot caffeinated beverage from around the take-out lid.

I jokingly said that someone should invent a gimbal mount for wheelbarrows. No sooner had I said it than I though it really wasn’t such a silly idea. A quick online search revealed any number of general-purpose gimbal cupholders that could be made to work. This one cost only a few dollars, was easy to mount, and seems sturdy enough to do the job and last a while. We’ll see how practical it might be, but in the mean time it will be fun to watch the Hand’s reaction when he realizes he’s got a place for his coffee.

The Hand laughed, and later reported that not a drop of coffee was spilled.
