We were traveling to the south side of the island this weekend. We stayed with Queen B and visited other dear friends. This morning we got up at 04:30 and took a long drive to where our catchment water tank had been manufactured. It just fit in Timmy the Titan. We made the long drive home.

At first, it didn’t seem possible for me to get the tank out of the truck on my own. The Hand went home sick and HA was out doing errands. I wanted to take the tank out as close as possible to its final resting spot, but that mean that the truck was pointed downhill and the tank had to slide out of the bed going uphill.

I ended up using ropes and a 2x2 lever, and eventually I was able to get it out of the truck.

Next I have to do final leveling of the gravel bed at the back corner of the garage, then put in a sand base, then move the tank onto it. That will take two people. While I’m waiting for help, I’m ordering fittings and adapters to connect the outflow of the tank to our diaphragm pump and thence to the washer and, eventually, the water heater and laundry sink. We’ll then fill the tank at least partway using our municipal water and, when everything is working, install a gutter, first-flush valve, and diverter to refill the tank from the roof runoff.

It has been quite dry, but last week we got five inches of rain which would have filled the tank about ¾ full had I had everything in place.
