HA has left the island for an indefinite period, likely six weeks or more, to care for her octogenarian parents while her mother undergoes a surgical procedure. Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone, but I’m glad she’s able to spend time with her folks and support them in their time of need.

We’ll be apart for longer than we have been at any time since our first date.

I’ve lived alone or with only my children most of my adult life, so it’s not like I don’t know how to cook, clean, bathe, buy groceries, and manage the beautiful botanicals while she’s gone. I will also have to take on primary responsibility for the sheep and the chickens — and might even get to collect our first egg harvest. Of course, Luna the Big Dog™ will need walks (they’ll just be lonelier) and feeding and grooming.

No, what I will miss is her, her presence around the house, her thoughtfulness like the little arrangement she left by the bed before she left (pictured above). Her smile in the morning. Her conversation and observations. Her love.
