This morning was a time for hanging things. First, over the garage door.

Ever since the garage door was installed, there has been a big gap between the top of the door and the top of the opening. I suppose I got the opening wrong when I designed the garage — I don’t know squat about garage doors. At any rate, we were so happy to finally get the door after two were damaged in shipping that we figured it was a problem to be solved later.

I looked for some kind of gasket material, and eventually found these long, thin brushes that hang from the top of the door opening and seal the door when it’s closed. They were surprisingly easy to install.

I was anxious the first time I closed the door, because it looked as though they wouldn’t fill the gap at all. As the last panel of the door slid in place, though, it came to rest snugly against the brushes. All was well.

Now I just need to get the trim for around the door — I’ll add it to the order for the materials for the pavilion deck, and we’ll be one step closer to having the garage finished. Battens and paint will be next.

Ever since we moved the bedroom, my little office and the bedroom have been contiguous, and the bedroom has been plainly visible from the kitchen. That sometimes feels a little invasive when we have guests. A few weeks ago, we cut a large shaft of bamboo. We have plenty: this is neither the largest nor the tallest stand we’ve got.

The shaft has been curing in the garage since, and today we brought it in, cut it to length, and made a curtain rod of it. HA had already procured tab curtains, and the result (top of the page) is a modicum of isolation and privacy for our bedroom.

spa day

That was all in a morning’s work. For the afternoon, a neighbor had invited me to a yoga class that was happening in the ‘hood. Oddly, I’ve never done yoga except for some poses with my mother when I was, I don’t know, maybe eight years old. It was gentle, and a good experience that I’ll be repeating.

After that, I got another amazing massage from HA, then went from the massage table directly to the hot tub.

Life = good.
